It is impossible for GOD ( ALAHA ) to forsake HIS own, as the continuation of Psalm 22 foretells.
However, it is common to all mankind, in every culture and time frame, that
the teacher is silent during the test.
Furthermore, in most cases, so are the other students. No-one is permitted to "help" the one being tested... else, it is not a test.
It is also common to all mankind, that MAN IS TESTED. He is tested as to skills, knowledge, and morals --- in all cultures and in all time frames.
He is tested to see if he will HOLD to the COVENANTS he has made.
Furthermore, each and every man is and will be tested as to whom he holds allegiance: Self or Y'SHU+.
Sorely
tested.
Our LORD was ... in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Because HE+ went before us in suffering through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, we too can walk through it, fearing no evil. His+ rod and His+ staff will comfort --- strengthen --- us to endure.
HE+ will never leave us nor forsake us, Scripture says. HE+ will restore our souls.
And, as it is written, NO MAN can pluck us from The FATHER'S hand if we hold on to Y'SHU+... I and My+ FATHER are ONE, Echad, Ha ELOHIM.
If we indeed are called to suffer for His+ Name's sake, then let us meet Y'SHU+ The M'SHIKHA+ there, on the suffering TREE of His+ Cross.
It is impossible for Y'SHU+ to forsake us... as long as we do not forsake HIM+.

I was considering buying the Aramaic New Testament until I read your review. I have read a few books, such as "The Difficult Words of Jesus," which bring cultural context, Hebraic and Aramaic word understanding into the meaning of various texts. What I wanted was to find a study Bible that brought the depth of ancient culture and original (spoken) language into commentary along side the scriptures. While at first glance, it appeared to me that the Aramaic New Testament might do that, upon reading your review and a few others, it became clear that it is not only not a good translation, but the commentary is heavily biased to his (at times) erroneous views.
Seeing that you have researched this well, are there any study bibles - or commentaries - that bring the cultural and linguistic understanding into their comments without being overly biased?

Thank you for your response. I bought the AENT for the exact purpose that you mentioned as your own reason for wanting one.
I found that Janet Magiera has a good translation which keeps the Aramaic in tact. She studied with Mr. Lamsa but thankfully, she is much more orthodox Christian that he was. She has a good website with lots of helpful books available, in addition to an interlinear.

I also consult David Bauscher's work. He has a very, very LITERAL word for word translation that is free on-line or which can be ordered as a book, for a price. His word-for-word translation is awkward because it is just a literal translation which has not been smoothed out. He does offer a smoother version, but I , of course, am not looking for smoothness but rather for accuracy.

I am personally not quite as comfortable with Mr. Bauscher's own theology, just from his introductory statements, as I am with Mrs. Magiera's.
I use those free on-line programs, Dukhrana.com and all the lexicons associated with that program, as well as CAL , the Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon from the Hebrew University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Those are both simply linguistic programs done by language scholars with no doctrinal bias. The CAL scholars are able to distinguish between more than 20 DIALECTS of the Aramaic language. They are Jewish and have no doctrinal agendas which color their work.
There are a few other translators out there, but I do not have their works. Paul Younan's work is solid in SOME places, but strange in others. I see his work in the Gospels on Dukhrana.
