HONESTY in translating is like HONESTY in  banking: you don't purloin the funds for your own purposes. There is nothing to be gained by dishonesty. But there is MUCH to be lost: integrity, trust, reputation, and ultimately, judgment in a court higher than your own.

I have had an OPEN INVITATION on this blog for over a month to all readers to send in their own translations from the Aramaic Text of Galatians 1:4.  I asked that the work be ORIGINAL and not purloined from a published translation.   

I did this because I have translated it myself with the aid of the most excellent DUKHRANA website and some Aramaic grammar aids...  and I wanted to see if others "read it" the same way... from the Aramaic to the English.  

Since languages are not secretive nor only the possession of the "enlightened elite", everyone who has a will to deal with that language CAN FIND A WAY TO LEARN or understand it to a working degree.  

In this case, the Aramaic block letters are so similar to Hebrew that there should have been many who could tackle the 14 little words in Galatians 1:4.

 

No-one did.

So, here is my own translation from the Aramaic text of Galatians 1:4 of the 14 words with their grammatical syntax from DUKHRANA / Peshitta Tools website, which is available for all to check . Anyone can follow along this explanation printed below very easily.

"HaV" = who, that--- masculine singular

"deYaHV"= verb, has given , 3rd person  masculine (he or who), singular, perfect Peal ( the basic verb form or conjugation)

"NaPH SHeH" = noun, his soul, self , emphatic , fem sing with suffix:  3rd person, masc sing (his)

"CHaLaPH" = particle, for, instead, in exchange of

"CHeTaHaYeen" = noun, our sins, emphatic, masc plural with suffix: first person common plural (our)

"daNaPhaZehYeen" = verb,  

HE+ might / would deliver us,  Imperfect Pael   ( causative, active voice), 3rd person masc (he) with suffix: 1st person common plural (us).

In addition, there is a grammatical clue in the Aramaic of the preformative daleth (d') that is attached to the front of the verb. In standard Aramaic grammar that d'  tells the reader this: that verb phrase is NOT ATTACHED to the preceding noun. That means in this sentence that "for our sins" CANNOT be attached to the verb "deliver." "For our sins MUST be attached to the previous verb phrase.  

"MeN" = particle, from

"AaL Maa" = noun,  the age, the world , masc sing emphatic

"HaNaa" = pronoun, this,  masc singular

"BeeY SH aH" = adjective, evil, emphatic masc sing

"aA Y K " = particle, as, according to

"ZeB YaNeH" = noun, His will, emphatic, masc sing with suffix: 3rd person masc sing (his)

"de aALoHa a"= noun, of the Aloha (Eloah), emphatic , masc sing

"aABu N " = noun, our Father,  noun emphatic masc sing with suffix: first person common plural (our)

Any person can follow along the BASIC translation of this verse; the meaning is obvious. It can be translated into smoother English by adding a conjunction (that) where the purple star is * . Thus it should read:

WHO+ has given HIS+ Soul for our sins that HE+ might deliver us from this evil world according to His will of ELOAH our FATHER.

 [The word "WHO" is referring to Our LORD  Y'SHUA+ ha MASHIYACH+ directly preceding this verse.]

If you check DUKHRANA / Peshitta Tools for this verse, you will find that Dr. Etheridge, Dr. Murdock, and Dr. Lamsa, Pierpont-Robinson's Greek text, Nestle-Aland's Greek Text, and the Latin Vulgate agree with this rendering. 

However, 

there  is  one  translation

which does not agree with

all of the above

nor with Sister Judith Hannah's 

parsed out translation. 

This ONE "gold standard" translation chooses to change the voice from active to passive of the verb "deliver." 

This ONE translation chooses to change the subject number of that verb from singular to plural.

This ONE translation chooses to ignore the standard Aramaic rules of grammar and ignore the d' (the preformative daleth)which disconnects "deliver" from the noun in front of it, "sins."

This ONE translation chooses to change the plain meaning of the particle "for, instead of" to the conjunction "so" ... and adds in an additional "that" in a place NO-ONE else inserts that. 

All these grammatical and syntactical changes are totally arbitrary, not based on Aramaic grammar, and yet even worse,  they change the meaning of the verse! 

Here's a partial reading of the most critical part of the verse, which this "golden translation" damaged beyond recognition:

..."so our sins that are delivered from this world... "   

Are "OUR SINS" delivered

from this present evil world?

Is THAT what the Word of ELOHIM teaches?  Is this another Aramaic "idiom" that excuses bad translation? Or, is it a purposeful sleight of hand... trusting, of course, that the readers WOULD NEVER TRANSLATE THE ARAMAIC TEXT ITSELF... and find out the Truth for themselves?

The TRUTH is what that verse plainly states in English, Latin, Greek, and Aramaic:  Y'SHUA+ Ha MASHIYACH+ poured out HIS+ Soul, HIS+ Life-Blood, to deliver US from our sins.

This verse says NOTHING about "our sins being delivered..." (whatever that means).

What does it accomplish

for the author/editor ?
